If you are looking at specific remedies, I've also heard people taking zinc for a bit.

Yes, I take it to try to stave off colds.

You could also try kombucha. It's a type of fermented green tea.

Never heard of it before now.

There's no scientific proof that it helps, but that's mostly because it's hardly been studied (so there's no scientific proof that it doesn't help either). It's quite a bit of work though.
