Those who use computers solely for the internet could easily get buy with iPhones and iPads. I don't think you'd want to do heavy word processing on those, so I think if you were someone who did a lot of research and writing, you'd opt to have a computer over a tablet/phone connection. But yah, if you're one of those people who just uses computers to browse the internet and maybe watch some movies and play simple flash-type games, then I don't see any particular need for you to have a desktop or even a laptop computer.
