1. Have you ever dated someone who doesn't read?
Yes, on multiple occasions, and in the end - it was always a mistake. Usually I forced a couple of books on them, and they would lie and tell me they liked them.
2. Is reading important enough to you that you wouldn't date someone because they didn't read?
It would definitely depend on their other qualities, but: yes.
3. Do you think music is fundamental enough to your life that it would factor into who you dated?
For the most part, no. The majority of girls that I want to have sex with/date are going to like shitty rap, probably, and I'm okay with that. If I met an attractive girl who listened to my music, I'd probably make a fool out of myself trying to impress her, and she'd ignore me. It's better off that I hate their music with a passion.
4. Have you been on any dates lately?
Not really dates, no. Which bums me out, because I enjoy them. Like, you know that period in a relationship when you're no longer so worried about the other person dating other people that you try to one up them, and you're comfortable with yourself and with the relationship and you just hang out somewhere? That's awesome. I sort of want it.
5. Where would you suggest a book lover find... a lover?
I mean, I'm trying online too. There was a girl who referenced Lacan in her profile, and she seemed wicked cool. So we messaged, and she told me that humanity had hope because of the way the stars were aligning in some nearby galaxy, or something to that effect, so now I'm just going to write short stories, drink, and consider what I'll do with my life if all I continue to find are assholes or idiots (referencing women, because I feel like those are typically insults hurled at men). But yeah, I just put in my profile that I'm not interested in people who don't read and who watch reality television, and I'm definitely getting some messages. Most of which I ignore, because I sort of just know that it'd never work out anyway.
I cannot even copy his manner because the manner of his prose was the manner of his thinking and that was a dazzling succession of gaps; and you cannot ape a gap because you are bound to fill it in somehow or other -- and blot it out in the process. -- Nabokov

Being picky about books is very different from insisting that there be some books.

I thought you handled it rather well. Looking for someone compatible does not make you a snob.
