there are a couple really good reasons for feeding frozen over live.
As mentioned, it's nicer for the mice. But it's really better for the snake as well. There's always the possibility that live prey is going to fight back, which could injure the snake. Also, if you want to be able to handle the snake, you don't want it to associate warm body heat with food.
Those are the biggies.
