Is food technology a fancy way of saying "cooking"? Or is it about growing food?

A bit more scientific than that, I think..I don't really know much myself. I wanted to be a vet. Now I have three choices: to study food tech or chemistry at university or go to a polytechnic to study forestry engineering.


According to wikipedia Food technology, or food tech for short is the application of food science to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and use of safe, nutritious, and wholesome food.
