My soon-to-be 89 year-old grandmother is entering the last stages of dementia and a decision was made between the doctor and my mom's family to take her off of her cholesterol pills or anything not directly related to dementia-slowing medication. She's now eligible for home visits from hospice care as she's in that "six months to live" phase. I'd much rather she die sooner with some dignity than to have procedures prolong the body functions while her mind withers to the point where she'd forget her children and grandchildren before she dies.

It's a farce to spend billions on Terry Schiavo-like "care."


What is the point of life if there is no life left to live? Its hard for me to say it but assisted suicide could save millions of dollars of taxpayer money and much grief for families. I would rather look someone in the eye and say kill me rather than rot away not only my body but taxpayer and family money to boot. Of course this is very drastic and will not occur in our lifetimes but future generations might be able to see the benefit of it.
