Why has everybody so far accepted the premise of this obviously misleading question?
What's wrong with the premise? And why are debt collectors not going to come take it back? Except insofar as where national debt is concerned the sorts of people who collect it - tax collectors or invading armies - tend to do more then just send vaguely hostile letters and screw up your credit rating.
As I've said, I don't really approve of the kid holding the sign, but the point made on it is true enough. Nobody has a specific 'share' of the debt but the debt nevertheless exists and taxpayers must pay for it and the interest on it, and the numbers about right, current debt divided by pop I'd assume. It's not mathematically feasible to run in deficit forever and even if we ran deficit neutral henceforth we'd still be paying interest on it till inflation slowly ground it down. We've no idea what her future status as an earner will be, on the dole or the next Bill Gates, so a straight division of debt by pop is reasonable, how is the sign wrong?
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

Because your mommy and daddy would rather write a sign for you to hold than pay taxes.
