Also, even where it is mandatory it's to have auto insurance specifically to drive a vehicle on a public road. You aren't required to have it.


Well, being required to have it to drive on a public road and being required to have it period are basically the same thing as far as my meaning went. But I didn't know that some states don't require it. Do you know how many, roughly?

What happens when an uninsured driver in a state that doesn't require insurance causes an accident that injures someone? Does the injured party simply have to sue the uninsured driver on their own? What if the uninsured driver has no money?
