seriously. its real. Being in a new big city can be tough, but try not to overeat and gain weight, you will hate yourself for it at the end of the year.
Monday will be my first day at the University of Helsinki.
I'm not terribly nervous about anything in particular. But still, Helsinki is almost totally unfamiliar to me. All my old friends are spreading out to other cities or staying where they are so I don't know anyone in advance.
The part where we learn things isn't that scary, though. I was always a good, and independent, student so there should be nothing ruinously hard there. Of course, I still don't really know what my major (food technology) is all about. The goal is to become a Master of Food Science.
I wonder what living in a shared apartment will be like? I haven't seen the place yet. According to a website one apartment houses 6 to 10 people (just guys or guys and girls). Messy, perhaps? I learned to use a washing machine just a few weeks ago. I clean, when I get the spark.
At least the apartment is cheap, wondrously so. After the rent, my student benefit should be about 260 euros per month. I'll try to get a weekend job when I've settled in.
Thankfully, the first week is a soft fall. It's all introductory stuff, and at least one freshmen party.
So yeah, making it in the big city (don't laugh..Helsinki is plenty large enough for me, I'm from the countryside, 15 kilometres to the nearest town) is my main concern. I wish I wasn't such a terrible map reader.
