I think the two main things that are hurting it are lack of an active chat room and facebook. I never like chat myself but it is where people actually got to know each other and not just what their opinion on certain issues were. Losing a chat I think took some of that away. A think a lot of the people who used to comment here are now spending more time on facebook. With facebook you get to pick and choose who you interact with and most people prefer talking to people who agree with them.
