You're talking about shipping from the US to an overseas location, correct? That's expensive. When it comes to a relatively large, heavy box of frozen food that you need to arrive as fast as possible, it is fantastically expensive. A box one cubic foot in size would be over $200 USD to ship via UPS. When you take into account the size of the dry ice + cardboard and several inches of foam insulation (cooler and packing peanuts, usually) you don't have much room for burritos. Jump up to a 16x16x16 box, and you're over $400 USD, and that's only if you don't go over 30 pounds.

So yeah, basically, I don't think you could fit enough burritos in a box to make it worth the shipping costs. By my rough why-am-I-bored-enough-to-do-this-math calculation, you'd have to fit over 50 burritos in the 12x12x12 box before breaking even. Double that for a 16x16x16 box. And then you're over the weight limit for that size box which makes shipping even more expensive, blah blah blah. Even if you somehow manage to save yourself some cash, it probably won't be much.

Bottom line: not worth it. Unless my original US -> overseas assumption was incorrect, in which case all bets are off. :P

It really depends on how much the dry ice itself costs; my mom's sent me a couple of care packages (it's impossible to get Wolf chili outside of TX, let alone on another continent) and the shipping was around $100. Not cheap by any means, but still probably cheaper than buying them here, especially since a lot of that was canned goods that weren't exactly light. It's worth checking out at least, and I'll definitely do my homework before committing to spending any money, in part because there are several ways to ship internationally and the price can vary a LOT depending on which one you use. Priority Mail International as a "large package" (any dimension>12", length<60", length+girth<108" ) seems like the least expensive option and if punched it in right at the USPS site a 30 lb. 16X16X16" box <a href="http://ircalc.usps.gov/MailServices.aspx?country=10338&m=7&p=30&o=0&l=16&w=16&h=16&g=0&r=True">runs about $120</a> ($115 if I buy the postage online instead of at the post office). I'm actually more worried about what kind of duties the government here would hit me for, and clearing customs, but I'll definitely have to do some research before I commit to anything.


...I'll be interested to see if it ends up working out for you :) But from my limited knowledge of the subject, you might be required to (and probably would want to) choose an overnight shipping option because the recommendation is 5-10 lbs. of dry ice per 24 hours in transit, and I don't even know if you can mail more dry ice than that apart from any weight limit requirements.

Better all around if your bride can perfect a burrito recipe and batch freeze a bunch for you :D
