It was her birthday party, thrown for her by her family. Her mom, tells me to count to ten, then come out of the bedroom with the cake. I proceed to light the candles and place the ring on the stand in the cake. Her family begins a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday". The stupid candles aren't lighting with the lighter. The ring was already set, so I quickly used other candles to light the rest.
The song finished before I could get the candles lit, so her Mom started giving her cards. She started reading her cards and was completely enthralled. She didn't see me coming in to the room, or going behind her, or kneeling down on one knee.
I waited until she was done with the current card and started speaking, "Adrienne **** **** ****, will you do me the honor of being me wife?"
She turned...and took a second to recognize what was happening. Her hands went to her mouth. Her eyes got large with surprise. "I can't breathe," she said gasping. Then she nodded and was suddenly able to move again. "YES!," she exclaimed softly.
I set the cake down and couldn't get the ring off the cake. I was shaking so bad when I hadn't before. But after hugging and kissing her, I was able to get the ring off the cake and on her hand.
I was off her ring size by one. It's hard to judge ring size for someone who doesn't have rings.
