It is the easiest degree in the world to get and you get more days off than your average retire. Unions are not about attracting good teachers they are about getting the most money possible from the tax payers and protecting the teachers no matter how bad they are. If teachers union cared about kids they would willing to take small cuts in benefits instead laying off new teachers. But of course unions about seniority and they would rather sacrifice the new teachers and the students than give ground on their early retirement and free medical care.
