There's a fine line to walk on Twitter between being too bland and corporate (just keeping it to books and authors) and being too personal. If you're too much the former you won't pick up new followers because people don't like to see sites just pushing their own posts. And I would argue - on the basis of seeing what a lot of bloggers and other sites post - that we are nowhere near the too-personal end of things.

We're using Twitter as one way of bringing in new members, and it has in fact brought a lot more traffic to the site. Whether that's turned into new members is harder to say.

Frankly, I'm tired of people whining about things when we try new ways to get more traffic and life into the site. Most people keep their negativity to themselves. We don't expect everyone to enjoy the Twitter function, but how about you stop whining every time there's something in it that doesn't appeal to you? The point about disabling the Tweet box has been made before.
