If so, just take it to them. Let one of their "geniuses" plug in a cable and see what he can get. They do this kind of thing all the time for transferring data between phones, so it shouldn't be a problem. If the texts are well and truly deleted, well, you probably won't get them back. If it's just some weird software glitch, though (and it sounds like it might be, since you said you can still find them by searching) then the Apple guys might be able to get them back for ya.
