Chat admins could and did take corrective action in the chat room, boot or even ban an unrepentant offender who indignantly complained--then watch it spill over to the CMB where they were powerless to act. In other words, no matter what one says or links in chat, anyone angry with a chat admins response can just take their complaints, reasonable or otherwise, to the MB arena where the chat admin is just another user. The same behavior by the same person directed at the same parties force the chat admin who first took disciplinary action in Chat to go begging a "real admin" to take that same action on the MB, because a mere chat admin cannot. Rather than moderating chat, that simply infects the MBs with chats worst phenomena, to the detriment of the whole site (as many of us recall too well.) If anything, chat admins should have admin authority on ALL MBs to prevent that dynamic (making it that much more important that any chat admin possess great integrity and discretion.)

After all that, we would STILL have incorrigibles who always see themselves as the "real victim" of their unconscionable behavior trying to over the admins' heads to Ben, but it would be that much more pointless with admins of impeccable character. A basis for appeal should always exist for the sake of accountability, but appeals without merit can always be summarily dismissed.
