For me, people from Southeast Asia, India, and this Turkish guy I met a few nights ago (spurring this post- It was his first Halloween, he was dressed as a lumberjack, and was having a great time, but definitely found it a bit surreal) all had heard of Halloween, but had either never or very rarely participated.
Is it a religious thing in Ireland? As in, you actually go outside to scare away actual evil spirits, in the name of the Lord? Or is it like the US, where maybe you remember that was the justification a long time ago, but now it's just an excuse to have a good time/see children in adorable costumes?
