It doesn't seem to me to be the kind of product where people would see a commercial and be like, "you know, come to think of it we DO need a Christmas tree!" But maybe it would make more people buy real trees than fake, I don't know. Probably depends why they made the decision in the first place.

I'm not sure how much good I think it would do - I'm put in mind of the corn syrup commercials. I don't think it would hurt to point out that the small sellers/farmers are out there and that if we want to help them, the only way is to buy from them. Just not sure it would help. People will buy the cheaper tree from Lowe's anyway. I know.

It might just be the cynical part of me that suspects that if it had been the Republicans backing this we'd get the "OMG SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE" arguments

I got that, and I'm just not sure what we can expect from anyone anymore. We did get the standard "Obama is trying to slap you in the face by taxing you again!" though, so I'm sure you're right.
