You think it's ok for the eggs, milk, beef and pork industry to do it? Corn Syrup? nossy Send a noteboard - 10/11/2011 03:13:41 PM
These industries employ people, and are often run by smaller companies who cannot advertise on a large scale. Maybe I am uniquely biased, having just come out of 9 years in the garden center/plant sales industry. Maybe that should go away, based on the fact that large companies like Lowe's can out-sell, out-offer and out-refund us. That is what is coming, maybe it is better.

If the Christmas tree industry wants to pool some money to form a group to promote their product they should do that but they shouldn't get the federal government to step in and make growers give them money. Other groups like the egg industry and milk industry do it. It might even make sense for a state who grows a lot of trees to kick in some money since they will get it back in increased revenue but it is not the job of the federal government to tax products so that money can be spent trying to sell more products. We need to shrink the size of the fed not look for more ways they can get involved in business.

And not allow the USDA to help those who come to them? That's primarily what I was asking when I posted - do we genuinely think that it is impossible for the govt to help w/o passing a cost to the taxpayer? That seems to be what you are saying.

I don't understand the point of advertising Christmas trees, and I'm suprised the objection isn't - 10/11/2011 02:13:49 PM 607 Views

Why are we supporting an industry that does nothing but chop down healthy trees to throw them away? - 10/11/2011 02:30:10 PM 603 Views
Well, for the most part that is the reason they were planted in the first place. - 10/11/2011 02:34:09 PM 504 Views

These are trees that are planted specifically for that purpose... and then replacements are planted. - 10/11/2011 02:42:04 PM 490 Views
