1. "For the children" is definitely overused, and is often done so deliberately by those trying to push their various agendas, ESPECIALLY, with those who want the Internet to be a much more regulated place.

2. Sidestepping the "women shouldn't vote" thing, I will say that asking parents what they think about a given "think of the children" situation is not only near useless, but actually makes cool, collected reasoning impossible.

Why? Simple. I'm against the death penalty on principle. But if someone raped my hypothetical daughter, and got away with it? I don't know what I would do. It wouldn't be a calm editorial and an appeal to trust Ion the rule of law, though.

Basically, asking those who are close to a situation for a logical, effective and just response is useless. Sure, give your opinion, but not only should it not be given more weight, it should probably be given less.
