Being desert, it gets downright cold in the winter. It's not totally uncommon to have a 50 degree (F) swing in temperature during the day. There's great hiking/climbing not too far, one of the best North American caves (Carlsbad) within a day-trip, and lots of great food (assuming you like Mexican and Tex-Mex ).

If there were decent tech jobs, I'd consider moving back there in a heartbeat.
