I cannot speak for them, but it seems like Gingrichs infidelity is old news.

It is also possible that some of the attacks from that angle are backfiring; I saw some PAC had Romneys second ex-wife in a SC ad lamenting Newts untrustworthiness and the horrible way he treated her, which might have been more convincing if she were not the woman for whom he left his FIRST wife.
Newt has been ardently and strenuously pursuing the fundamentalist (sorry, refuse to let them coopt "evangelical," as if they cornered the market on the Great Commission) vote for some time though. The most infamous example is probably his incoherent rant to a San Antonio church last year warning of the dire threat of atheist Muslims setting up a godless theocracy. In SC he appears to have hit hard over the fact that even after Romney declared himself "Pro Life" and stopped donating money to NARAL, devising Romneycare led to "taxpayer funded abortions" in MA. To me that seems sketchy, given how little tax money Romneycare spends on ANYTHING, but with folks who consider it Marxism the charge might resonate more.
It probably does not help that the LDS aristocracy (of which Romney is certainly a member) does a good job of keeping a LOT of things mum, and the ones that do come out usually do not sit well with fundamentalists.
