Yes a lot of them will say they are Evangelical Christians if you ask but there are evangelicals and the then there are Evangelicals. They might have strong opinions about gay marriage and abortion but those were issues in this race and not what the majority was considering when they went to the polls. I honestly only hear the left making an issue out him being a Mormon or Newt's transgressions and then is seems to be that they are upset that right isn't acting like the knee jerk sheep the left thinks they are. If you look at the exit polls people placed the economy as at the top of their list for issues but you seem confused about why religion didn't play a bigger role. A better question would be why did they think Gingrich would be a better choice for economic reason. Start with Romenycare to get that answer by the way.
