It ends up making it feel like there's almost no voting process at all, EXCEPT in the swing-states.

But every major party in every democratic country has places where they get their votes, places where they lose them and some places that can go either way and that make the difference.

Of course, having only two candidates does exacerbate the problem... but you can take consolation in your presidential elections being less fucked up than the French ones (lest one forget, that election is a lot closer than the American one).
