I remember back in 2008 when conservative pundits were endorsing Romney over McCain because McCain was 'too liberal', I'm not really sure why Romney has such a bad rap, though I'd never call him a lion of conservatism. Then again I don't happen to think of Reagan as the god-like crusader of conservatism some name him either. Whichever, if I could wave away all of Newt's baggage and his tendency to suddenly spout of pipe dreams or occasionally enthusiastically endorse moderate or liberal ideas I'd prefer him as my POTUS, but as things stand I can't see anyone else taking out Obama and I think Romney actually has a shot at a landslide with coattails. I don't know why everyone seems so convinced Romneycare or his prior pro-choice sentiments will hurt him at the polls in November either. As for VP, as much as I like Christie, he'd be a bad VP choice, but I think Romney could get Rubio on his ticket and I think Romney/Rubio would probably clean sweep the swing states. I can't see any of the other contenders making a decent VP anyway, though Huntsman probably would be a good SecState and I'm guessing that's what will happen. I can't really see any of these guys, regardless of their conservative credentials, actually helping Romney, they got beaten up pretty good too. Damaged goods except for Pawlenty. Any choice that is viewed as at least decently conservative will be sufficient to guarantee the right-wing vote and I think Bachmann, for instance, or Santorum, would actually drive votes away. I don't think Cain or Perry will really bring anything to the table even if you could delete the attacks. End of the day, various attacks on Romney for not being conservative enough will probably win him more votes than it costs him.He just needs to pick a VP candidate who solidifies his conservative creds a bit and brings him a decent shot at a swing state or a chunk of a demographic.
