It's like rooting for a guy on a team you don't like because he's on your fantasy team. We could get Random Thoughts angrily defending a Dem, not in hopes of getting that Dem elected, but so that he gets the three extra points to beat you in week four.
It might be interesting to see if and how much people bet against preference, even increase understanding of how the other sides leaders and supporters think and act.
But I would bet dollars to donuts 80+% of participants would just take the guys they liked best, and losers would raise unholy Hell because their favorite candidate lost the real election AND because they lost the Fantasy Election. It is a nice idea, but human nature would make it an utter disaster in practice. Kinda like communism.
