Actually I do, but I don't find this amusing. It's all too disgusting. 300 000 Americans die each year due to obesity. The last thing people need is a restaurant that caters to that segment of the population that doesn't care about their health unhealthy food. (that sentence feels weird..)

I agree, but it is entirely up to each person. I might eat there once for the novelty, but I can't tell anyone not to go there. In case I wasn't clear, I do not think either the situation or the restaurant is funny.

I'd say that people are eating better now than they were - otherwise you wouldn't see the token "healthy" meals popping up at McDonald's, etc.

I think people want to feel like they're eating better but either don't know what that really means or are willfully deluding themselves that these so-called "healthy" options are actually better for them. I can feel great about eating a salad instead of a cheeseburger if I pretend it doesn't actually have more fat and calories than the cheeseburger.

Maybe wanting to feel like you're eating better is currently the same thing - they do want to eat better, but I agree that they don't quite get it (and restaurants seem to be ok tricking them). But I think you have to admit that there are a lot of different opinions on what is "right." I think people are confused to some degree - we're still just coming off the "no-fat, carbs are ok" decades.

Changing portion sizes is a step in the right direction, and I have seen better portions offered at better price points. Even O' Charleys does that, and they are a place that serves sweet bread with every (normal) meal. :P
