A Facebook friend posted a saying that I think is quite relevant, and shows exactly why it's important to master the English language:
Grammar:
It's the difference between knowing your shit
and knowing you're shit.

I am not a Grammar Nazis but when I am reading something and I am constantly coming across certain words that cause me go back and re-read a sentence to translate what word they really meant...it sort of pisses me off.
There is one thing I have to admit, Wotmaina taught me a lot about proper spelling/meaning/difference of such words as 'to' and 'too'. I know I still make mistakes and I know my punctuation is out in left field (Is a comma proper here? Comma or semi-colon? Ellipsis? I tend to use ellipsis a lot. Oh! There is another one. A lot, not alot.
You all have taught me a lot, but not alot about proper grammar. Thank you!
You are quite welcome. You did not, however, close your parenthesis. Or spell "wotmania" right. *beats savagely with wet noodle*

Oh, and a semicolon is ALWAYS right.
In this case, no punctuation is really necessary between the two clauses.
