The do have a room with some babies in but most of the babies are in the room with their parents. When my daughter was born the people who came to see her came to see her in my wife's hospital room, they did not have to look at her through a window. When she was first taken from the delivery room and they had to weigh her, tag her and do all the other stuff they do to newborns she was in that room and we watched through a window but that was only about half an hour. She also went to the nursery for a little while so my wife could take a shower and so the Dr could examine her but most of the time she was in the room with us. Some parents sent their baby there when they wanted to sleep but our daughter slept in the room with us.
So. You know how newborn babies in American films are all in one big nursery together?

Actually, it is more like "The Matrix;" these other people are just hospital agents.
