Well yes, that was me rather stating the obvious snoopcester Send a noteboard - 13/06/2012 10:56:12 PM
Again same. Although actually reading debates or discussions with some depth - on political subjects or others - are one of the more interesting things on Facebook, allowing you to see a side of acquaintances that you may not have known about. Way I see it, if someone on my friends list is involved in such a discussion, it'll teach me either what subjects could be interesting to discuss in person next time I see him or her, or it'll teach me what subjects to avoid at all costs... win-win, no? :P

That is a fair point.

Well, you can delete them afterwards of course, but yeah.

In theory but in general people treat it like they do a normal conversation, once it is said it is gone rather than that it is a form of permanent record.

I definitely think that will happen... it's one thing to do it on a site like this where, while many of us know the "real world identities" of many others, there's still a degree of anonymity at least towards strangers visiting the site. But on Facebook...

Yes, on Facebook it is all linked directly to a person's real name, their date of birth, friends and family, phone number, email address, photos, etc. Here it is all at least slightly hidden behind a username, not actively trying to find the person for you.

Robert Graves "There is no money in poetry, but then there is no poetry in money, either."

Henning Mankell "We must defend the open society, because if we start locking our doors, if we let fear decide, the person who committed the act of terror will win"
