They are reacting as expected to the announced withdrawal. However, unless we are willing to commit the money and manpower for a full scale occupation and re-education ala post-war Germany and Japan, we have reached the limits of what we can accomplish. At some point the Afghans will have to take care of their own internal problems, and if they still cannot do so after a decade, we have ended our external problem; it is time to come home.
