Had to get a tooth pulled a couple of weeks ago.
Got a huge pain on a back molar late one Friday night with no warning. Pain level kept going up and up and up all night leavng me groaning in agony all night. Forced to go to an emergency dentist Saturday.

Tooth was cracked, bacteria had got in and destroyed the nerve. An abscess (infection) was starting to swell up my whole jaw... and that's about the worst pain there is. It was a 50-50 call to extract. It's possible a root-fill could still have saved the tooth but there was no way to be sure of that.

I opted for the extracton. Big mistake. Dentist got out what looked like medieval torture intruments and started huffng and pulling trying to yank the huge molar out wth a pair of fckn' pliers (no kidding). It was coming out in bits and pieces... she was having trouble and blood was pouring out and when the top of the tooth snapped off the roots were still trapped. So she had to fish around in the gum wth knives for ages tryng to cut the roots out. Yanking wildly she accidently smashed into the tooth beside the one that was pulled out and took out a bit of that one as well.

Finally she got it all out but I had to go back the following week for her to fix the damage done to the other one during the ordeal.

They make you bite down on gauze for hours afterwards because if you don't a geyser of blood shoots out of the socket. The bleeding won't stop for like 1-2 days. Then it's sore for like 1-2 weeks. Full healing takes 6 months. Finally there's a big hole in your mouth forever afterwards.

Getting wisdom teeth out is not so bad (I had them taken out years ago) but if its a front tooth or a big chewng tooth (as in this case) it's much worse. You will defintely miss that tooth.

So the moral of ths story is yeah, if possble don't ever get any teeth other than wisdom teeth extracted. It's truly awful.

Having given birth recently, and having had an abcess, I have to tell you that you're wrong. - 28/06/2012 10:48:02 PM 427 Views
Every time pain comes up the argument always escalates into "birth" and "kicked in the balls." - 28/06/2012 10:49:58 PM 396 Views
