A related accident that didn't quite end in death. Or at least not immediate death.

A few friends and I were sitting on a park bench, eating lunch. As we ate, there was a squirrel holding onto the trunk of a tree, perhaps 10 feet up or so, staring at us. We ate, he stared. Completely still. After a while we started wondering if something was up with the thing since he really hadn't budged in a very long time. I picked up a pebble and nonchalantly tossed it in the squirrel's direction, intending to see if the noise would scare it off.
Now, I'm sure you can see where this is going. Keep in mind that I was sitting on a bench, the squirrel's tree was at least 30 feet away, and I have never been, nor will ever be, intentionally cruel to an animal.
...but, yes, in a 1-in-a-million throw, my rock hit him smack between the eyes and he fell off his tree trunk, 10 feet down, hit the ground, and did not move. This being the lunch area of a public park, there were witnesses. Karma being what it is, they were children, and several of them rushed over babbling variations on, "mommy is he dead?" Meanwhile I just stared, open-mouthed, sure that I had just unintentionally slain a fluffy animal in front of a group of kids.
Thankfully, not long after the kids started hovering over the scene, the squirrel started moving again. And when I say moving, I mean, "went ballistic." The thing thrashed in place for a second or two, the kids ran away, and the squirrel finally oriented itself and scrambled up a nearby tree. Meanwhile my friends and I hightailed it out of that park as fast as we could, with at least one of them laughing hysterically at me. The squirrel seemed fine before we left, but for all I know he might have died of a massive brain hemorrhage later that day. It makes for a good story, but I felt pretty bad about the whole thing at the time.
TL;DR Accidentally beaned a squirrel in the head with a rock, knocked it unconscious in front of some kids. Momentary seizure notwithstanding, the beast walked away (seemingly) unharmed.
