He just hears the word "conservative" and does not understand its meaning in Europe vis-a-vis its meaning here. Most "conservative" Germans that I've met to be very socially liberal and pacifists and still support a government that helps its people, just more streamlined in its extent and approach. If only she were less friendly to Russia. Le sigh.
