I don't know if I agree that the mechanism for parole should be in place. I mean, in general, it should. Like I said before, I can support the idea of parole. But in Brevik's case, I find it hard to agree about the possibility of any parole. It just comes off as farcical to me for it to even be considered.
... I find it reassuring that Norway is not making exceptions to their own laws because of one extreme case, but rather are dealing with that case the same as they would any other. I'm not against the idea of a gradation of the justice scale that includes "no parole, not ever" for such cases, but I also think it's just fine to have the possibility of parole applied equally to everyone even though the courts have the option of denying it forever. In the end it sort of comes down to the same thing at the extreme, Breivik-y end of the spectrum, it's just a different way of approaching it. In one you apply the "never get out of jail" card at the beginning, and in the other you apply it regularly and periodically while allowing for the possibility, however remote, that in the future things might change.
