Our economies are so tied there's always a lot at stake for Canadians in US elections.

Canadians loved Obama's personality, and welcomed the promised changes in foreign policies (which disappointed in the end) from Bush's era, but worries about Obama's lack of experience, in economy and the rest, was pervasive in our media through the whole campaign, and beyond. If he ended up getting the upper hand in mediatic and popular favor during the primaries and the campaign, as I told Tom, this owed a great deal to the fact Bush was so hated and Hillary Clinton had made very alarming protectionist comments concerning Canada (that I understand didn't make much noise in the US, but in Canada they sure did). Obama's failures didn't help with his popularity, but it's the foot dragging concerning the oil pipeline to Texas and lifting the exclusions from the Buy American Act that truly hurt him here.

Socially all but one Canadian parties are of course closer to the Democrats - but that's America's internal affairs and your business, but traditionally Canadians, even the liberals, have long favoured the Republicans for the White House, for the economical policies which unlike most of the social ones have massive impact on Canada too.
