The players have no reason to want the real refs to back down. They actually have a vested interest in disrespecting the new guys, that they are given so many reasons to do so is just gravy.
The players are themselves Union guys. Even if they are not all smart enough to see the benefit of not letting another union get busted, their own leaders will let them know about. Millions of dollars are at stake, and if ownership gets beat here, it only bodes well for the players at future bargaining tables.
