and if you use this laser long enough, you won't see anything ever again! moondog Send a noteboard - 28/09/2012 07:59:23 PM
And for anyone considering a purchase, be careful. Every laser is dangerous when shined towards your eye, but high powered lasers like this can quite literally cause permanent blindness even when reflecting off walls and carpet (and we're talking milliseconds of exposure, not prolonged viewing). A lot of people think they're fine as long as they don't make contact with the beam, but that's definitely not enough; you NEED the safety goggles. These things are no joke.

Yeah, I kind of took them at their word on the goggles; my HS science teachers kind of beat into my head that even the milliwatt lasers we had (which, back then, were about the size of this one) can blind if shone directly into the eye. It stands to reason that since a 1 watt laser is 1000X more powerful, and lasers by nature concentrate all that power to a single point (which is why milliwatt lasers can damage retinas,) these should be handled with care. Still very cool though, and would TOTALLY keep the neighbors !#@#ing cat from walking on my windshield. ;)
