It would be much more logical to join the religious argument about marriage instead of opposing it. Argue that it violates the Non-Establishment amendment, thus invalidating the existing marriage laws then participate in recrafting them in a more universal manner.

all gay people want to do is have the same rights everyone else already has. who are you to deny that? what possible legal justification can there be to deny them the same rights already provided to straight couples? remember that it was once illegal for white people to marry non-whites. are you going to argue we should go back to those laws as well?
