I got it right away, but then I grew up only a few hours away.
Even the other levels of NCAA football have a playoff tournament, but in Division 1A it is still more about past legacies (that were most often about popularity even then) than current accomplishments. On the rare occasions the NCAA season ends without sportswriters and coaches finagling a way to get Notre Dame to the postseason I figure they all drink themselves into a stupor that lasts until two-a-days start.
