Our Second Amendment discussions disqualify you as an authority on causality.

The facts are all in the article and what was done to banks that didn't "play ball".
Even people who believe the GOP fiction about their innocence cannot find data to support it, and end up producing data AGAINST it when they try.
Though this one provides additional negative evidence.
The only "purity" in the causation you maintain is pure partisanship. It ignores the proximate, direct, most significant and ACTUAL cause, because that cause implicates the GOP (and Clinton,) to focus instead on a law passed nearly a decade earlier with a very tangential, limited and short term effect, because that "cause" implicates Dems exclusively. It is like saying Pearl Harbor was caused by Commodore Perry opening Japan: They are nominally "connected" to the extent they involve the US Navy and Japan, and Japan would not have rapidly modernized without it, but that is the limit of the two events' association. Even that "cause" so much predates its SUPPOSED effect that its ACTUAL effects had long since reached their end: Without the Washington Naval Conference and the US embargo on oil and steel sales to Japan, Pearl Harbor does not happen; with them, it is inevitable. Commodore Perry is off the hook for introducing Japan to the West regardless.
