January 7th is the optimum day to take down the decorations as it falls just after Epiphany/Little Christmas/Nollaig na mBán.

Indeed, we took down our decorations today and I live in a house of shiftless students so the fact we could be motivated to do so means regular people have no excuse to not take down their stuff.
