rather than isolating specific strains as restoring the entire "environment" is thought to be the cure rather than a single active "ingredient".

I'm guessing they use close family members because it's probably easier to get a "donation" an you're less likely to have a bad reaction to someone's "stuff" if they're genetically similar.
