I really have not seen anyone so stupid on these boards in a long time. You reason like a union thug Cannoli Send a noteboard - 03/02/2013 12:03:31 AM

no, the law in question said if someone wanted union-negotiated benefits, they didn't have to join a union to get them. for someone who sometimes rails against people who *might* be abusing the welfare state,
When and where? The only abuse of the welfare state I recognize is distributing and receiving.

i would think this is something that you could support -- the idea that to get a benefit you have to put in time/energy/money to receive it.

Employees ARE putting in time/energy/money, moron. It's called "doing their jobs". Unions don't get to demand tribute from all workers, forever, because they once negotiated a deal in their own best interests.

should you receive health and pay benefits afforded to police without having to join the police force?
This does not even make any sense! No one should receive those benefits because they are compensation for doing a job, that they are not currently doing.

as to your corruption problem:
I'm not the one who has an issue with corruption - I take that to be a given. You are the one defending the infamously corrupt organizations, whose very reason for being is to use force and violence to violate natural property rights, and complaining about legislative chicanery used to deprive them of their plunder. You're the hypocrite. For me, corruption is merely a cost to be factored in.

given the traditional level of corruption republicans have been known to engage in, it's hypocrisy that you support their policies.
The "traditional level of corruption republicans have been known to engage in" is a joke next to the part of Tammany Hall, the Daley machine and Lyndon B Johnson. Only in Joel's rabid conspiracy theories are the Republicans the more "traditionally" corrupt party. And I have never been a Republican partisan, as anyone with any real familiarity on this board should know. I support individual politicians depending on their policies alone, regardless of party affiliation.

given the traditional level of corruption book publishers have been known to engage in, it's hypocrisy that you still read books.
In the first place, this is even more absurd than the Republican thing, since book publishers are not nearly known to engage in corruption on the scale of unions. It's not like there have been dozens of governmental inquiries into the corrupt publishing problems. 8}

given the traditional level of corruption businesses have been known to engage in, it's hypocrisy that you still support businesses.
When do I support business? And in what manner? What do you even mean by business?

given the traditional level of corruption humans have been known to engage in, it's hypocrisy that you're still living. :rolleyes:
Because life is a defining characteristic of human beings?
