Honestly, the whole "cyan/dark blue/indigo/purple/violet end of the spectrum confuses me

Where does one end and another begin? If light blue (cyan) is a legitimate color on the spectrum, why aren't the "light" versions of other colors, like pink or peach or lavender? Or if cyan is "blue," then what is the color we commonly think of as blue (dark blue)? Is it not a real color the way purple isn't? Or is it indigo? Or is indigo "purple?" Because I always thought purple was violet!
Ugh, I give up. I'm just gonna go with what the color crayons say 
Also, how do you make orange on a TV set?
Purple: the most made up colour of them all.
