Yes we need to cut hundreds of billions of dollars from future spending in the next 10 to 20 years due to the greying of the US workforce and the retirement of the baby boomers. Currently the baby boomers are economic generators but soon they will be net liabilities due to them retiring and being in social security and medicare instead of contributing to it.

If we had a more "even" demographics instead of a boom bust cycle of people our government spending problems would be a lot more manageable.

That or we can raise taxes (yes this has economic consequences raising taxes, but we need to cut spending, raise taxes, or do both both)
