To say they're completely different is a bit much, though. Obviously they fall under one class and are informed a limited set of over-arching political opinions and sentiments.

I see the components as completely different issues

Real Background checks
Gun Registry (never going to happen in reality)
Magazine limits
Type of Guns limits
Concealed Carry
Types of Regulations on training, etc

All these parts are completely separate issues.
