There were tons of raids on gay bars in the 1960s, which eventually lead to the Stonewall riots, which led to the creation of gay activist groups, which eventually led to gay marriage.
That doesn't mean the raids were a good and necessary first step on the path to acceptance- it just means that every cloud has a silver lining, or maybe that with enough effort you can make the best of a bad situation.
I amuse myself.
