View original postThere's nothing new here, a fairly stale blend of ultra-nationalism and religious zealotry born from preferring to view one's culture as utterly superior in spite of its rampant poverty and the position as a leper in the world achieved through whitewashing history to paint some past Utopia smashed by foreign greed, jealousy, and general wickedness.
I'm wondering now if this is a common thing among the Taliban, this misguided nostalgia for the days of united India - under Muslim rulers, to be sure. In a country like Pakistan, with its rocky (to say the least) history with India, that's kind of interesting. I remember having read something about the subtleties of India's relations with the Taliban before, but sadly I can't remember now what it was.
