View original postI dare say it will add up, in any case you're bound to have tons and tons of opportunity for practice in NYC. It definitely does help in Spanish-speaking countries to speak at least tolerable Spanish, and reaching that level is not that hard, definitely not for Americans (reaching perfect fluency is a somewhat different story, and of course there are differences between dialects).

Yeah, my sister said there's tons of Meetup groups for people who want to learn Spanish, so once I'm a little conversational, I'll totally do it.

I am a very visual learner. I learned English by reading (Tolkien - not a book for a beginner!)

What's interesting is how stimulating it is to learn something. I feel like my brain is more awake and nimble even at work things.
